Moving Home Checklist
Inform all service providers of your change of address, including utility companies, Banks, TV licence, store cards etc.
If required, get quotes from professional removal companies
Decide which items can be taken to a charity shop, sold at car boot sale, or offered to your friends
If you have children or pets, arrange for someone to look after them during the move.
Start packing and label boxes clearly.
Start packing non-essential items such as books, pictures, toys into boxes.
Make a list of everyone who should know about the move. Send out change of address cards.
Notify your milkman and newspaper shop that you'll be moving and give them a date you want the service to stop
De-register from your doctor, dentist and optician if you're moving out of the area
Contact your removal company to confirm their arrival time and notify them of any last minute details
Visit the post office and arrange for your post to be forwarded
Pack a box of personal items that will be needed immediately at your new home (e.g. light bulbs, toiletries, kettle, coffee etc)
Clean your house or arrange for a professional cleaning company to come in
Check with neighbours to see if they’d have objections to the removal van parking in front of there house and resolve any parking problems i.e. arranging permits
Defrost Fridges and Freezers
Organise and set aside any items that you are taking with you so that they don't get loaded on the van by mistake
Disconnect everything from your old property, write down your meter readings and inform your utility companies
Before leaving, double check you haven't left anything behind & make sure all windows are closed and doors locked
Hand keys into the estate agent
Collect the keys for your new property from your local FBM
